NATALIE PORTMAN'S 'BLACK SWAN' SPREAD WINGS IN VENICE

Natalie Portman is in Venice for the world premiere of director Darren Aronofsky's 'Black Swan,' which kicks off the Venice Film Festival – and we have all the festival excitement! Of her rigorous training schedule, Natalie revealed, 'Physically, I trained starting a year ahead of time, and then the six months prior to the film went into sort of hyper-training, where I was doing five hours a day of both ballet and cross-training, swimming, and then the few months before was when we started getting into the choreography. It was very extreme.' In the dark drama 'Black Swan,' in theaters December 1, Natalie plays Nina, a New York City ballerina who is completely consumed with dance. Ready in the wings to take over for prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Winona Ryder) when artistic director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decides to replace her in a new production of Swan Lake, Nina suddenly faces tough competition with the arrival of Lily (Mila Kunis), a talented new dancer.
